our story

At Blue Rayne Highlands, our story is rooted in a love for the land, the Highland breed and the opportunity to build something of our own.

We are Kobe and McKinley Fisk, a husband-and-wife team raising AHCA-registered Scottish Highland cattle in Iowa. Long before Highland cattle became popular in pop culture, McKinley was drawn to the breed and its history. Her passion for purebred cattle, pedigrees, EPDs and genetics made Highlands a natural fit.

After we got married, we decided to turn that interest into a herd of our own. In early 2022, we purchased our first heifer, Susan, Hyland Acres Kamrynn #62709. She became the foundation of what is now Blue Rayne Highlands.

Since then, our family has grown with the addition of our son, Vincent, and our little operation has continued to grow alongside us. We are proud of our small beginnings and intentional about where we are headed.

There is a lot to love about the Scottish Highland breed. With a history dating back centuries and the first registered herd book established in 1884, Highlands are known for their hardiness, longevity, docile temperament and ability to thrive in a variety of environments.

For us, their history and functionality are just as important as their unmistakable appearance. We appreciate a breed that can be efficient and hardy on the land, while also producing quality beef and cattle that are enjoyable to work with.

Building
Our Fold

We have big goals for Blue Rayne Highlands, and we are intentional about how we get there.

We study pedigrees, evaluate genetics and consider structure, temperament and functionality as we make breeding decisions. We aren't simply looking to add more cattle. We want to build a fold where each generation brings us closer to the kind of cattle we envision.

In 2026, we took Blue Rayne Highlands into the Highland show ring at the Iowa State Fair. With years of experience showing other breeds, we were excited to bring that experience to the Highland ring. Just a few months later, we brought home our first banners from the North Star Highland Show in Minnesota. Novel of Grace Bullrush #73684 was named Champion Junior Yearling Heifer and Overall Grand Champion Junior Heifer, while Sterling of Blue Rayne #74192 was named Champion Junior Heifer Calf.

For a growing program, those accomplishments mean a lot to us. They are a reflection of the cattle we are putting together and the breeding decisions behind them, and they have only made us more excited about what is ahead for Blue Rayne Highlands.
